Cancel your reservation

If you want to cancel your reservation, this needs to happen within 72 hours to get a full refund. If this is not fulfilled, there will be charged 20% of your reservation. It is impossible to cancel a reservation after the reservation period has started. We will assess the total amount of the rental agreement period. Unless we agree to something else, You are always welcome to return the vehicle earlier; however, you will always pay for the whole period.

Age limits and requirements

The driver must have had a driver license for at least one year and above the age of 20 by Icelandic laws to rent a car in Iceland.

Making a reservation

If you want to make a reservation, you need to accept our terms and conditions. You will have to make a reservation through our system and provide a valid Credit card or Mastercard and your personal information. If the payment is accepted, you can complete your reservation. We will be subtracting 20% of the total amount for the rental agreement upon the completion of the reservation, and you will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. The rest ( 80% ) is charged upon delivery of the car.

How and when to pick up and return the vehicle

In making a reservation in the system, you can choose the pickup and return location of the vehicle. Unless the car is not returned to the agreed-upon location, an additional fee can be and will be subtracted from the renter. There is no specific time period of when the vehicle should be returned as long as it is within the agreed-upon date and time. If there is a need for changing the pickup or return location, then an agreement needs to be made with the Luxerental.

Fees for additional support costs

In case of traffic fines, Luxerental will charge 7.000 ISK for each fine it has to handle. Of Course, the fine itself is paid by the renter, and the lessee agrees that Luxerental can charge the amount from the lessee credit card when the fine has arrived at Luxerental, even though the renting period has finished. All other administration regarding the vehicle costs between 5,000 ISK - 10.000 ISK; this could be tanking up the vehicle or cleaning the vehicle if it is unusually dirty.

Taxes

All Luxerental's prices have 24% tax (vat) included.

Extra equipment

All extra equipment needs to be returned in the same state as when received. If this is not fulfilled, an additional fee will be added to cover the given equipment. The renter has full responsibility for the equipment during the renting period.

The obligation of the lessee

The lessee must make sure that the vehicle is treated with respect and responsibility. If an accident should happen, the renter must first notify the appropriate authorities 112. Once the renter has informed the proper authorities, the renter must inform Luxerental of the accident. Suppose the vehicle is not in a driving state after an accident. In that case, the renter must cover the fee of having the vehicle towed. If the lessee violates the terms of this contract, does not return the automobile at the time agreed according to lease, or does not declare his intention to extend the lease, the lessor or the police are authorized to repossess the vehicle without further notice and at the lessee's cost. Extending the lease is dependent on the consent of the lessor. If the lessee returns the vehicle one hour or later after the lease has expired, the lessor is authorized to demand up to 24-hours rental under the terms of the lease. For every day that begins thereafter, the lessor may collect all charges as per the lessor's pricelist. Any damages done to the tires other than the wear and tear are not covered; you can, however, buy additional insurance that will cover some of the damages. The vehicle must be returned with a full tank, or the cost might be subtracted from the insurance. Smoking is not allowed in all Luxerental vehicles. A fine of 50.000 ISK will be charged if this is not fulfilled. The renter is not allowed to have any repairs done on the vehicle. The renter must follow the law and not break traffic laws. Driving rental cars on roads or tracks with no road number is forbidden. Passenger cars and 2wd vehicles are strictly forbidden on roads that are marked with an F on public maps, as well as driving Kjolur (road 35) or Kaldidalur (road 550). Driving on F-roads is only allowed in 4X4 (four-wheel drive) jeeps that the lessor agrees as appropriate for being driven on such roads. A breach of this article authorizes the lessor to collect fines from the lessee, equaling the amount of own-risk as stated in the lessor's price list at any given time. The aforementioned provision on fines does not affect the lessee's liability regarding damage. The lessee is liable for damage resulting from the use of the automobile, for which no compensation will be paid by the insurance company. This includes damages to the automobile and/or injury to passengers due to the following:
  • 1) Off-road driving, for example, in paths and tracks, on beaches, in areas only accessible during low tide, or in other trackless areas.
  • 2) Vehicle use that contravenes Icelandic law and/or the provisions of the lease or driving under the influence of any intoxicants.
  • 3) Driving in or across rivers or any kind of waterways. Such driving is totally the responsibility of the lessee.
  • 4) Driving in banks of snow and ice.
  • 5) In the event of a collision or accident, the lessee shall immediately notify the appropriate police authorities as well as the lessor of the incident, and the lessee may not leave the scene before the lessee has given authority for it.
  • 6) The number of kilometres (km) that the vehicle is driven while the lease is in force is determined by reading a normal odometer supplied with the vehicle by the manufacturer. The lessee shall notify the lessor as soon as possible if the odometer is out of order or stops functioning during the term of the lease.
  • 7) The lessor is not responsible for the disappearance of or damage to property that the lessee or any other party leaves in or transports with the vehicle. The lessee agrees to pay the lessor upon request.
  • 8) Deposit amounting to the estimated cost of hiring the car.
  • 9) The renter must follow the law and not break traffic laws
  • 10) Any and all expenses incurred by the lessor if he has to bring the vehicle back to his premises, in the event that it has been left somewhere without supervision, without regard to the condition of the vehicle, the roads or the weather.
  • 11) The lessee is not authorized to have repairs done or make changes to the vehicle or its accessories or to put the vehicle up as any kind of security without the prior consent of the lessor.
  • 12) The lessee is liable for all parking meter charges and fines for breaking traffic laws.
    a) 35€ Handling fee for parking tickets & speeding fines will be charged to the credit card on file.
  • 13) The lessor reserves the right to collect a charge from the lessee, charged against his or her credit card; according to the lessor's price list, the lessor has to pay fines for the lessee and/or inform the authorities about the lessee because of traffic violations. The lessee is not authorized to use the vehicle to transport passengers for payment, lend it to others, or sublease it.

The obligation of Luxerental

Luxerental must provide an agreed-upon vehicle at the right time and at the right place with all agreed upon equipment. If an accident should happen, the renter must first notify the appropriate authorities. Once the renter has informed the proper authorities, the renter must then inform Luxerental of the accident. If the vehicle is not running properly or breaks down, Luxerental must provide the renter with a comparable vehicle as soon as possible. Luxerental must inform the lesser about Icelandic traffic regulation, traffic signs and other traffic information necessary to know before renting a car. Luxerental must have a valid agreement with a legitimate insurance company that covers his vehicles.

More General terms

The lease contract should remain in the car during the lease period. Icelandic law applies to agreements made on the basis of the terms cited above. This includes any claims for compensation that might be made. It also applies to the ground for and the calculation of compensation. The same applies to claims for damages based on liability outside this agreement. If legal disputes arise concerning this lease agreement, they will be heard before the Luxerental legal venue.
